For a start, here's the answer I gave to another runner last year:
The black and orange you saw on the pictures are the 40 Below gaiters that I used on Rovaniemi 300. I glued them on my Inov8 XTalon 212 to keep my feet warm and protected from the snow throughout the 4 days. They worked wonders, my feet were really warm - but unglued on the last days because of the shoes being so flexible. On the 1st Rovaniemi 150, I had the same shoes with Sealskinz waterproof socks and basic gaiters. Good combination. But the snow was so deep that my feet got wet anyway and even though it's been ok for the 150, but I wouldn't have made it on the Rov300. Since I've run with Inov8 Arctic Claw (basic, not thermal) and my 40 Below gaiters and it seems to work better. I'll wear that on Arrowhead. These gaiters are great but too warm if the conditions are mild (minus 3-4). I think that on Rov150, you'll be fine with a good pair of waterproof socks and tight gaiters that really prevents the snow to come in from top. Remember to change your socks at least once to keep your feet warm and dry. For the shoes, go for those you feel more comforable in, with a good grip, good profile. I'm a minimalist runner and a huge Inov-8 fan (not sponsored though 😉 ) so I can't tell you much about Salomon or Hoka.
Hope this is helpful!Rachel FB - The Stridershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08949412821054181944noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701140471530181622.post-11983495100886196512018-02-20T08:28:36.467+01:002018-02-20T08:28:36.467+01:00Thank you Dusty! Back in 2011 I did the MDS and I had to stitck the gaiters around for the sands . Great feedback on the clothing too .Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09391997658448862457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701140471530181622.post-28555603087077449982018-02-14T20:52:04.864+01:002018-02-14T20:52:04.864+01:00Great race report!
